Job Overview

The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education is inviting applications for an open competitive examination to recruit candidates for the role of Assistant Hostel Superintendent (Grade III). This role is vital for ensuring the well-being, discipline, and daily management of student hostels across educational institutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the discipline, security, and general welfare of resident students, acting as their primary guardian within the hostel.
  • Manage and monitor student entry and exit from the hostel premises.
  • Oversee food supply logistics, including purchasing food items, maintaining related records, safe storage, and issuing supplies from the kitchen.
  • Supervise food preparation and ensure the highest standards of cleanliness for kitchen equipment and the overall hostel premises.
  • Closely monitor and attend to sick students.
  • Protect government property as well as the personal belongings of the resident students.
  • Ensure the proper and systematic supply of water and electricity to the hostel facilities.
  • Execute any other duties assigned by the Head of the Institution relevant to the post.

Eligibility and Qualifications

  • Nationality & Character: Applicants must be citizens of Sri Lanka and possess an excellent moral character.
  • Age Limit: Candidates must be not less than 25 years and not more than 35 years of age as of the closing date of applications.
  • Physical Fitness: Must have adequate physical and mental fitness to serve in any part of Sri Lanka and perform the required duties.
  • O/L Qualifications: Must have passed the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination in six (06) subjects at one sitting. This must include Credit (C) passes in Mathematics, the respective Language medium of the exam (Sinhala/Tamil/English), and two other subjects.
  • A/L Qualifications: Must have passed at least one (01) subject at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination, excluding the Common General Test and General English.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary Scale (MN 01-2025): Rs. 45,230 - 10x540 - 11x630 - 10x890 - 10x1,190 = 78,360.
  • This salary scale will be fully applicable starting from January 01, 2027.
  • The post is pensionable; appointees will be required to contribute to the Widows'/Widowers' and Orphans' Pension Scheme as determined by the government.

  • Application Window: The online portal opens on October 05, 2026, at 09:00 AM and strictly closes on November 02, 2026, at 09:00 PM.
  • Hard Copy Submission: After submitting online, candidates must download the printed copy, manually fill in the required sections, get their signature attested, and send it via registered post. This hard copy must reach the Sri Lanka Department of Examinations on or before the closing date.
  • Examination Fee: An exam fee of Rs. 600.00 is required. Payments can be made via credit/debit cards, Bank of Ceylon (BOC) online banking/Flex app, or at any BOC branch.
