Examination Data Assistant (Open)

Applications are invited from eligible Sri Lankan citizens for the open competitive examination to fill 23 vacancies in the post of Exam Data Assistant (Departmental) Grade III under the Non-Technical Management Assistant Segment 2 Service of the Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka. The examination will be conducted by the Commissioner General of Examinations in Colombo in February 2027.

• Employment Type: Permanent and Pensionable, subject to a 3-year probationary period.

• Work Requirements: Service is specific to the Department of Examinations, but officers may be deployed anywhere in the island based on service requirements, including mandatory day/night shift operations.

Salary Scale & Benefits

• Salary Scale: MN-01-2025 – Rs. 45,230 - 10 x 540 - 11 x 630 - 10 x 890 - 10 x 1,190 - 78,360/- per month (in accordance with Public Administration Circular 10/2025).

• Pension & Widows'/Widowers' and Orphans' Pension Scheme: Subject to contributions as stipulated by government regulations.

Eligibility Requirements

1. Educational Qualifications

• G.C.E. (O/L): Passed six (06) subjects in one sitting with credit passes for Sinhala/Tamil/English language, Mathematics, and two other subjects.

• G.C.E. (A/L): Passed at least one (01) subject (excluding General Common Test and General English).

2. Professional Qualifications

• Minimum National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) in Computing / Information & Communication Technology.

3. Experience

• Minimum of 06 months of experience in computer data entry operations.

4. General & Physical Qualifications

• Citizenship: Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.

• Character: Must bear an excellent character.

• Age Limit: Between 18 and 35 years as of the closing date of applications (i.e., born on or between 20th November 1991 and 20th November 2008).

• Physical Fitness: Possess sound physical and mental health to discharge duties, along with the capacity for day/night shift work.

Examination Procedure & Evaluation Structure

Selection is based on the merit order of total marks secured across a written examination, a structured interview, and a practical test (Total Maximum Marks: 70):

1. Written Examination

• Subject: Computer Literacy (කම්පියුටර් සාක්ෂරතාව)

• Format & Duration: 2 hours | Maximum Marks: 100 | Pass Mark: 40%

• Syllabus: Questions based on NVQ Level 3 field of Computing, IT, and communication technology.

• Note: Candidates scoring 40% or above will be shortlisted in alphabetical order of exam numbers up to twice the number of vacancies for the structured interview.

2. Structured Interview & Additional Qualifications (Max 70 Marks total consideration)

• Additional Educational Qualifications: up to 30 marks

• Additional Professional Qualifications: up to 35 marks

• Performance at Interview: up to 5 marks

3. Practical Test (Typing Test)

• Evaluates keyboard proficiency using a computer to type a given multi-paragraph document within a stipulated time.

• Marking Criteria: Accuracy of output text compared to original (10 marks), time taken / speed (10 marks), and correct spelling/orthography (10 marks) — Total 30 marks.

• Important Note: Public/Provincial Public sector applicants must submit a copy of their application to their Head of Institution for their personal file and produce certified copies and service verification letters when summoned for interviews.
