The Postgraduate Institute of Science (PGIS), University of Peradeniya invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the permanent post of Scientific Assistant - Grade II.

Qualifications & Educational Requirements

Relevant Fields of Study:

• Computer Science / Computer Engineering / Information Technology / Data Science and Artificial Intelligence / Chemistry / Physics

Academic Qualification Routes:

1. A First or Second Class (Upper Division) in a Special Degree / Honors Degree Examination in the relevant subject; OR

2. A Second Class (Lower Division) in a Special Degree / Honors Degree Examination in the relevant subject*; OR

3. A pass in the BA/BSc Special Degree / Honors Degree Examination in the relevant subject*; OR

4. A pass in the BA/BSc General Degree Examination with a recognized postgraduate qualification in the relevant subject*.

(Note: Applicants from routes (ii), (iii), and (iv) will only be considered if no applicants qualify under the preceding higher categories).

Preferred Professional Areas:

Preference will be given to candidates with relevant professional qualifications and/or experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Computer network administration and management

• High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster management

• Cloud-based data management and analytics platforms

• System administration

• AI frameworks

Salary Scale & Benefits

• Salary Scale: [U-AS I (1)] - Rs. 81,285 - 19 x 1,240 - 104,845 p.m. (Plus other applicable allowances as per Commission Circular 02/2025 (i) and relevant UGC circulars).

• Age Limit: Not less than 18 years and not more than 45 years.

• Fringe Benefits:

  • Universities Provident Fund (10% employee, 7% employer) and Contributory Pension Scheme (8% employer).

  • Employees Trust Fund (ETF) 3%.

  • Gratuity in accordance with the Payment of Gratuity Act No. 12 of 1983.
