Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Life Limited offers an exclusive 6-month comprehensive internship program designed for undergraduate students and recent graduates. The Graduate Actuarial Trainee (GAT) program provides a rare opportunity to work under the direct supervision of a fully qualified actuary and jump-start a rewarding career in actuarial science.

Program Content & Learning Areas

  • Introduction to the insurance industry and its regulatory framework.

  • Exploratory data analysis projects on actuarial valuation data.

  • Conducting insurance portfolio experience studies.

  • Introduction to the concept of reinsurance and reinsurance premium calculations.

  • Study of financial statements of insurance companies.

  • Introduction to the concept of Value of New Business (VoNB) and VoNB model development.

  • Development of cash flow projection models for pricing new products.

  • Study of financial markets and theory of interest.

  • Introduction to business projections.

  • Planning next steps in professional development for a career in the actuarial profession.

Candidate Entry Requirements & Eligibility

  • Genuine interest and commitment to pursuing a career in the actuarial profession.

  • Current undergraduate student or recent graduate (within the last 12 months) with a degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science, physics, chemistry, finance, economics, risk management, decision science, engineering, computer science, or a similar discipline.

  • Ability to work full-time during weekdays throughout the GAT program duration.

  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite; knowledge of the R programming language will be an added advantage.
