Driver (Open)

Applications are invited from qualified male citizens of Sri Lanka for the open recruitment of 33 vacancies in the post of Motor Vehicle Driver – Grade III in the Combined Driving Service of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Public Service, in accordance with the service minute approved by the Governor of the Sabaragamuwa Province.

Salary Scale

• Salary Scale: PL 3 - 2025: Rs. 42,780 - 10 x 490 - 10 x 540 - 10 x 590 - 12 x 630 - Rs. 66,540/- per month (as per Public Administration Circular No. 10/2025).

Candidate Qualifications & Requirements

1. General & Residency Qualifications

• Must be a male citizen of Sri Lanka.

• Age Limit: Between 18 and 45 years as of the closing date of applications (30.11.2026) (Note: Upper age limit does not apply to permanent officers already in the public service).

• Residency: Must be a permanent resident within the Sabaragamuwa Province as of 30.11.2026. If the applicant does not possess 3 years of continuous residency in Sabaragamuwa, their spouse must be a permanent resident in the province for the preceding 3 years.

2. Educational Qualifications

• Passed the G.C.E. (Ordinary Level) examination in 6 subjects in not more than two sittings with at least two Credit passes, including a pass in Sinhala / Tamil Language.

3. Professional Qualifications & Experience

• Must possess a valid Vocational Proficiency Licence issued by the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic for driving private/hire cars and station wagons under 24 gross weight tonnes, and must have held a Class C and C1 licence (or Class B under the new licence categories) for at least 03 years prior to 30.11.2026.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a motor vehicle driver (to be proven by certificates).

• Sound knowledge of the Highway Code.

4. Physical Fitness

• Physically fit for day and night service with sound vision, certified by a formal medical report issued by a Government Medical Officer during the interview.

• Minimum height requirement: 5 feet.

Selection Procedure

1. Eligible candidates will be called for a driving professional test conducted by a board appointed by the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Public Service Commission.

2. Candidates obtaining the highest marks will be called for a general interview for document verification.

3. Final selections are made based on district population ratios and merit order across the districts of the Sabaragamuwa Province.

Examination & Application Fees

• Examination Fee: Rs. 600/- (Must be paid in cash to any Ministry Office / Department Office of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council – excluding local authorities – or any Divisional Secretariat within the Sabaragamuwa Province under revenue head 20.03.02.99). Attach the original receipt securely to the application.

2. Get your signature certified by an authorized person (e.g., School Principal, Retired Officer, Grama Niladhari, Justice of the Peace, Attorney-at-Law, or Staff-grade Government Officer).
