Driver - Vavuniya Municipal Council

Applications are called from qualified candidates for 8 vacancies in the post of Driver – Grade III at the Vavuniya Municipal Council, in accordance with the approved cadre and the service minute for drivers of local authorities in the Northern Province.

Salary Scale

• Salary Scale: PL 3-2025: Rs. 42,780 - 10 x 490 - 10 x 540 - 10 x 590 - 12 x 630 - Rs. 66,540/- per month (in terms of Public Administration Circular No. 10/2025).

Candidate Qualifications & Requirements

1. General Qualifications

• Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.

• Age: Between 18 and 45 years as of the closing date of applications (Note: Upper age limit does not apply to permanent officers already in the local government service).

• Sound physical and mental health, and good character.

• Residency Requirement: Applicants must have 5 years of continuous permanent residency within the Vavuniya Municipal Council limits. If sufficient candidates are not available, those with 5 years of continuous residency within Vavuniya District will be considered (to be proven by a residence and character certificate certified by the Grama Niladhari and countersigned by the Divisional Secretary).

2. Educational & Professional Qualifications

• Educational Qualifications:

  • Passed G.C.E. (O/L) examination in 6 subjects in not more than two sittings with at least two Credit passes, including a pass in at least 5 subjects in a single sitting.

  • Must possess a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 4 or equivalent technical/vocational training certificate in a relevant field recognized by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC).

• Professional & Driving Qualifications:

  • Capability to drive vehicles used for solid waste management, liquid waste management, water supply, and other council vehicles (e.g., pick-up, van, bus, tractor, gully bowser, roller, motor grader, lorry bowser, backhoe loader, compactor, three-wheeler, etc.).

  • Must hold a valid driving licence issued by the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic for at least 03 years, covering light, heavy, and land vehicles (tractor).

Selection Procedure

Selection is based on a structured interview followed by a trade test to examine driving proficiency for local authority vehicles.

• Structured Interview Criteria (Total 100 marks, pass mark 40):

  • Educational Qualifications: 50 marks (minimum 20 to pass)

  • Job-Related Knowledge: 25 marks (minimum 10 to pass)

  • Conduct and Discipline: 25 marks (minimum 10 to pass)

How to Apply

1. Obtain application forms by paying a fee of Rs. 602.50 (inclusive of VAT and SSCL taxes) at the Revenue Branch of the Vavuniya Municipal Council on working days and submitting the receipt to the Establishment Branch.

2. Duly fill out the application and attach certified copies of educational, professional, residency, and birth certificates.

3. Envelope Marking: Write "Application for Recruitment to Driver Grade III Post" on the top left-hand corner of the envelope.
