Available Trades & Specific Qualifications

1. Medical Trades

• Nursing Assistant (Female) - Regular / Volunteer

  • O/L Qualifications: Passed G.C.E. (O/L) in 6 subjects in not more than 2 sittings with Credit passes for Sinhala/Tamil, Mathematics/Science, and one other subject, along with a Ordinary (S) pass for English. (International equivalents such as GCSE/Cambridge O/Ls are accepted with matching grade thresholds).

  • Additional Advantage: Passes in the Science/Maths/Agriculture A/L stream are considered an added qualification for future advanced healthcare training under the Ministry of Health.

  • Volunteer Direct Entry Option: Requires at least 1 year of nursing training including clinical practice from a government or registered private medical institution, or an NVQ Level III or higher nursing assistant certificate.

2. Operations Trades

• Dog Handler (Female) - Regular / Volunteer

  • O/L Qualifications: Passed G.C.E. (O/L) in 6 subjects in not more than 2 sittings with Ordinary (S) passes for Sinhala and Tamil languages.

3. General Engineering Trades (Direct Entry - Volunteer / Non-Uniformed)

• Automotive Mechanic (Male) - Volunteer

  • O/L Qualifications: Passed G.C.E. (O/L) in 6 subjects in not more than 2 sittings with Ordinary (S) passes for Sinhala and Tamil.

  • Technical Qualifications: National Vocational Qualification Level II (NVQ Level II) or higher in Automotive Mechanics (Automotive Electrical, Electronic, or Air Conditioning) from a state or registered private institute.

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of practical experience in the relevant automotive field.

General Eligibility Requirements

• Citizenship: Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.

• Age Limits:

  • Regular Airwomen: 18 – 22 years

  • Volunteer Airwomen: 18 – 26 years

  • Direct Entry Volunteer (Male): 18 – 30 years

  • Direct Entry Volunteer (Female): 18 – 26 years

• Physical Standards:

  • Height: Not less than 5 feet 1 inch (154 cm) for females; 5 feet 3 inches (159 cm) for males.

  • Body Mass Index (BMI): $17 \leq \text{BMI} < 25$ (Female); $17 \leq \text{BMI} < 26$ (Male).

  • Vision & Color Perception: CP2 color vision; visual acuity 6/9 in one eye and 6/6 in the other without spectacles or contact lenses.

• Civil Status: Regular recruits must be unmarried upon enlistment.
