Job Overview
The Sri Lanka Railways Department is inviting applications from qualified Sri Lankan citizens for an open competitive examination to recruit candidates for the role of Procurement Officer - Grade III. This is a permanent position within the public sector, subject to a three-year probationary period.
Eligibility & Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following criteria to apply:
- Nationality & Age: Candidates must be citizens of Sri Lanka. The applicant's age must not be less than 21 years and not more than 35 years as of the closing date (October 26, 2026).
- General Fitness: Candidates must possess an excellent moral character and have adequate physical and mental fitness to serve in any part of the island.
- Educational Requirement (Option 1): Hold a degree from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) with at least one of the following subjects: Mathematics, Science, Management, Information Technology, Commerce, Business Management, Economics, or Statistics.
- Educational Requirement (Option 2): Alternatively, candidates can hold a degree in any subject stream from a UGC-recognized university, provided they also possess 02 years of work experience in the procurement field.
- Note on Eligibility: The effective date of the degree must be on or before the application closing date. Clergy members of any religion are prohibited from applying or sitting for this exam.
Salary and Benefits
- Salary Scale (MN 4-2025): Placed on a monthly salary scale of Rs. 53,060 - 10 x 800 - 11 x 1,190 - 10 x 1,320 - 5 x 1,350 = 94,100/-.
- Allowances: Government-approved allowances granted to public officers from time to time will be paid in addition to the basic salary.
- Pension: The post is pensionable; appointees must contribute to the Widows' and Orphans' / Widowers' and Orphans' Pension Scheme as determined by the government.
Selection Process
- Written Examination: Conducted by the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA) in January 2027. The exam comprises two papers: an Intelligence Test (1 hour) and a Procurement and Management paper (3 hours). Candidates must score at least 40 marks in each subject to pass.
- Structured Interview: Candidates who pass the written exam will be called for a structured interview based on merit. The number of candidates called will be equal to twice the number of available vacancies.
How to Apply
- Examination Fee: A non-refundable fee of Rs. 1,200.00 must be paid. Payments can be made at any People's Bank branch, credited to the General Manager of Railways, Mid City Branch Account No. 176-1001-290-27313. The original receipt must be firmly affixed to the application.
- Application Format: Applications should be prepared on A4-sized paper using both sides. Ensure the format strictly follows the specimen provided in the gazette notice, with headings 1.0 to 2.12 on the first page and 3.0 to 7.0 on the second page.
- Submission Details: Send the duly completed application via Registered Post to reach the authorities on or before October 26, 2026.

- Envelope Marking: The top left corner of the envelope containing the application must clearly bear the words: "Open Competitive Examination for Recruitment to the Post of Procurement Officer - Grade III of Sri Lanka Railways Department - 2026" (Written in the respective language medium of the application).
