The Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura invites applications from qualified individuals for the position of Qualitative Researcher on a Contract Basis for the research project CRITIC. This project aims to reduce the incidence of Tuberculosis (TB) in the Galle district.

Key Responsibilities & Job Role

  • Travel within the Galle district to conduct Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and In-depth Interviews (IDIs).
  • Transcribe recorded discussions and interviews accurately.
  • Translate Sinhala transcripts into English.
  • Work under tight deadlines and pressure to meet project deliverables.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Educational Qualifications:

  • A PhD utilizing qualitative research methodology in Medicine, Nursing, or an equivalent field.

Experience & Track Record:

  • A proven track record of publications in qualitative research.
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully under pressure and meeting strict deadlines.
  • Proven experience in effective teamwork and collaborative research environments.

Competencies & Skills:

  • Demonstrated capability to transcribe audio and translate accurately from Sinhala to English.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Sinhala (Proficiency in Tamil is considered an added advantage).
  • Exceptional organizational and task-prioritization capabilities.

Remuneration & Working Conditions

  • Remuneration: An all-inclusive monthly allowance of Rs. 600,000.00 for completing 30 FGDs and IDIs.
  • Contract Duration: Fixed-term contract for four (04) months.
  • Working Hours: 6 days per week, including weekends.
  • Training: Comprehensive initial training will be provided to selected candidates; satisfactory completion of this training is mandatory prior to commencement.
  • Performance Evaluation: Candidates will undergo monthly performance evaluations; contract extensions depend entirely on satisfactory performance.
