The Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IBMBB) of the University of Colombo invites applications from suitably qualified persons for academic positions in Biotechnology across Lecturer (Probationary), Lecturer (Unconfirmed), Senior Lecturer Grade II, and Senior Lecturer Grade I categories.

Position Summary

• Role: Lecturer (Probationary) / Lecturer (Unconfirmed) / Senior Lecturer (Grade II) / Senior Lecturer (Grade I) in Biotechnology

• Institution: Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IBMBB), University of Colombo

• Location: Colombo 03, Sri Lanka

• Employment Type: Permanent Cadre (subject to a 3-year probationary period)

Key Educational & Professional Qualifications

1. Lecturer (Probationary)

• A BSc Degree with specialization in Biological Sciences or allied fields with First or Second Class (Upper/Lower Division) Honours; OR

• A BSc Degree with specialization in Biological Sciences or allied fields without honours (or any other Degree with at least Second-Class honours) AND a Doctoral Degree in Biotechnology / Master’s Degree in Biotechnology with full-time research of at least 24 months duration; OR

• Equivalent academic/professional qualifications approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

• Note: Candidates must make a presentation before the Selection Committee to prove teaching ability.

2. Lecturer (Unconfirmed)

• Qualifications stipulated for Lecturer (Probationary) AND a Doctoral Degree in Biotechnology (or a Master's Degree with at least 24 months of full-time research) AND less than 6 years of experience in university teaching, professional practice, recognized research, or postgraduate studies.

3. Senior Lecturer Grade II & Grade I

• Meeting foundational degree and postgraduate requirements (Doctoral/Master's degree in Biotechnology) AND possessing at least 6 years (for Grade II) or 12 years (for Grade I) of post-qualifying experience in university teaching, research, or professional practice.

• Special Preference: Candidates with postgraduate qualifications in Molecular Biotechnology will be given preference.

Salary Scales & Benefits

• Salary Code: U-AC 3

  • Lecturer (Probationary): Rs. 94,400 - 10 x 2,400 - 118,400 p.m. (as at 01.01.2025)

  • Lecturer (Unconfirmed): Rs. 121,340 - 5 x 2,940 - 136,040 p.m. (as at 01.01.2025)

  • Senior Lecturer Grade II: Rs. 138,980 - 11 x 2,940 - 171,320 p.m. (as at 01.01.2025)

  • Senior Lecturer Grade I: Rs. 160,520 - 7 x 3,900 - 187,820 p.m. (as at 01.01.2025)

• Allowances: Government-approved allowances applicable to the university system will be paid.

• Provident & Pension Funds: Member of the Universities Provident Fund (UPF - 10% employee, 7% employer), University Pension Scheme (8% employer), and Employees' Trust Fund (ETF - 3% employer).
