Job Overview

The Confucius Institute, Faculty of Arts at the University of Colombo is inviting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Temporary Assistant Lecturer in Chinese on an assignment basis.

• Position: Temporary Assistant Lecturer in Chinese (On Assignment Basis)

• Number of Vacancies: 01

• Employment Type: Contract basis (Initially for 6 months, renewable for up to another 18 months based on performance and institutional need)

• Location: Confucius Institute, Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka

Required Qualifications & Eligibility

Applicants must satisfy the following academic, language, and proficiency requirements:

1. Educational Qualifications

• A Degree with specialization in Chinese Language with First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) Honours; OR

• A Degree with specialization in Chinese Language with Second Class (Lower Division) Honours; OR

• A Degree with specialization in Chinese Language without honours or any other Degree with at least Second Class Honours, AND accompanied by a Doctoral Degree, a qualifying Master’s Degree with a research component (thesis/dissertation) meeting specific duration/credit criteria.

  • (Note: Candidates under the first category will be evaluated first, followed by others if necessary).

2. Language & Proficiency Requirements

• Medium of Instruction: Must be able to teach effectively in the English Medium.

• Teaching Experience: Must possess at least one (01) academic year of Chinese language teaching experience.

• Proficiency Scores: Must achieve at least 180 marks in HSK Level 5 and 60 marks in HSKK Intermediate Level.

3. Additional Preferences & Citizenship

• Preferred: Preference will be given to applicants holding the "International Chinese Teacher Certificate" issued by the Language Cooperation Centre in China.

• Citizenship / Status: Applicants must be Sri Lankan citizens, hold legal status such as Sri Lankan Permanent Residency, or possess long-term residence permits (Chinese students are excluded).

Salary & Benefits

• Basic Salary: Rs. 103,000.00 per month (as of 01-01-2025).

• Allowances: Government-approved Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) will be provided.

• Statutory Contributions: Contributions to the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) and Employees' Trust Fund (ETF) will be made in accordance with university regulations.
