Limited Competitive Examination: Sri Lanka Agricultural Service (Grade III) – 2024 (2026)

Eligibility Criteria (Limited to Public Officers)

• Agricultural Development Stream:
• Officers in the Special Class of the Sri Lanka Technological Service (SLTS) holding the post of Agricultural Instructor, OR
• Agricultural Instructors in SLTS or Provincial Technological Service with at least 10 years of active and satisfactory service, OR
• Officers in the Associate Officer Service category with a 4-year UGC-recognized degree in Agriculture and 5 years of active, satisfactory service directly engaged in duties under the Department of Agriculture or Provincial Departments of Agriculture, OR
• Horticultural Assistants with at least 10 years of active and satisfactory service, OR
• Agricultural Instructors or Horticultural Assistants with a Degree in Agricultural Science or Science and at least 5 years of active, satisfactory service.
• Agricultural Economics Stream:
• Assistant Economists with a minimum of 5 years of active and satisfactory service, OR
• Officers in the Associate Officer Service category with a 4-year UGC-recognized degree in Agriculture and 5 years of active, satisfactory service directly engaged under the Department of Agriculture or Provincial Departments of Agriculture.
• Agricultural Research Stream:
• Officers in the Special Class of SLTS holding the post of Research Assistant, Soil Surveyor, or Land Valuation Officer, OR
• Research Assistants, Soil Surveyors, or Land Valuation Officers in SLTS with at least 10 years of active and satisfactory service, OR
• Officers in the Associate Officer Service category with a 4-year UGC-recognized degree in Agriculture OR a 4-year B.Sc. Special Degree in Botany, Chemistry, or Zoology, and 5 years of active, satisfactory service directly under the Department of Agriculture or Provincial Departments of Agriculture, OR
• Research Assistants, Soil Surveyors, or Land Valuation Officers holding a Degree in Agricultural Science or Science with at least 5 years of active and satisfactory service.
• General Eligibility: Sound physical and mental fitness to serve island-wide; no disciplinary punishments under PSC Circular No. 01/2020 as of the qualification verification date.

Selection Scheme & Examination Structure

• Written Examination (January 2027 in Colombo):

1. Aptitude Test / Intelligence Test: 100 Marks | 1 hour 15 minutes (Minimum 40% to pass).
2. Subject-Specific Knowledge: 100 Marks | 2 hours (Minimum 40% to pass).

• Structured Interview & Seniority:
• Candidates obtaining 40% or more for each paper will be called for the interview.
• Seniority marks (up to a maximum of 30 marks): 2 marks per satisfactory year of service and 1 mark for 180 days or more.
• Final merit order is formulated by combining the written examination score and seniority marks.
