Detained by Dutch Military Police for Suspected Drug Offense, Streams Incident on Instagram Live.
Despite arriving in the United Kingdom following the event, Nicki Minaj was unable to make her Manchester concert on time. She did, however, appear on stage in Birmingham on May 26 as planned, and she is still slated to perform in Manchester on May 30.”#Manchester She tweeted that morning, “Thank you. “A class action. Please give me until tomorrow to hear about our new date. As I said last night, it will happen in June or July. Manchester’s #GagCity and as I previously stated, I’ll be providing you guys with an extra surprise bonus.”
As an added bonus, Nicki said, “I’m excited to see the #Manchester barbz on the 30th. Only a few more days…” Love you.”
Nicki Minaj’s admirers received a front-row seat as she was briefly held by Dutch military police in the Netherlands for an alleged narcotics infraction.
The “Anaconda” rapper was set free hours later and fined, despite her insistence that she was innocent during the May 25 encounter at Amsterdam’s international airport that she had livestreamed.
A message in English on their Instagram Stories stated, “A 41-year-old American woman, detained this afternoon at Schiphol Airport on suspicion of exporting soft drugs, has been released,” according to the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee. “Following consultation with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect received a monetary fine and is now permitted to continue her journey.”
While on her Pink Friday 2 tour, Nicki talked about being arrested on Instagram Live. A fan posted a video of her speaking about this on X, the former Twitter.
“They just said I have to get in this van and go to the presinct with them,” she continued, “to make a statement, with no lawyer present, after the pre-rolls they found from bags that they were not authorized to take—that we did not know what they took and we asked for our bags back— and after the security said, oh these pre-rolls are his.”
After unlocking the van’s door, a male security guard leads Nicki to a different car. “You’re placed under arrest,” he informs her. “You’ll be taken to the police station by us. since you are a drug dealer.”
“I’m not carrying drugs,” Nick retorted, “and I’m not going in there.” A lawyer must be present.
The policeman asked her to go to the nearby police station and that she would obtain a lawyer.
Nicki tweeted about the event live as well. “They said they found weed & that another group of ppl have to come here to weigh the pre-rolls,” she posted to X. Remember that my bags were taken without my permission. They’ve already been informed by my security that those pre-rolls are his. Yes, and the pilot requests that I remove my Instagram post.”
She said, “Now they said I have to go 5 mins away to make a statement about my security to the police precinct.”
Nicki said that her bags had undergone a manual search in the interim. In an Instagram video, Nicki claimed, “They’ve been trying to stop me from coming to every show.” “I couldn’t even see my bags when they took them. Take it with you on the aircraft.”
On May 23, Nicki had given a performance at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. On the day of the incident, she was due to travel to the United Kingdom to perform at a concert in Manchester. She was unable to arrive in time, though, and Live Nation U.K. informed NBC News that the event has been rescheduled in a statement.
“Despite Nicki’s best efforts to explore every possible avenue to make tonight’s show happen, the events of today have made it impossible,” the group stated. “We are deeply disappointed by the inconvenience this has caused.”
