Senior Economist – Central Bank of Sri Lanka
SENIOR ECONOMIST (Modelling and Forecasting Division of the Economic Research Department – Central Bank of Sri Lanka)
- The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) is seeking highly motivated professionals to join its team.
- 1.0 The Job / Responsibilities:
- Undertake macroeconomic forecasting and quantitative analysis, including the development, refinement, and application of structural macroeconomic models (including DSGE), semi-structural models, and econometric models, to support evidence-based policy formulation.
- Provide analytical insights and policy recommendations based on forecast assessments, scenario analysis, risk assessment, and evaluation of economic developments, and effectively communicate findings to support informed decision-making.
- Conduct policy-oriented research and contribute to reports, publications, and other analytical outputs of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to enhance understanding of macroeconomic and monetary policy issues.
- Principal duties and responsibilities are not exhaustive; selected candidates may be assigned additional duties in line with operational requirements.
- 2.0 Required Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
- 2.1 Educational/Professional Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree specialising in Economics or Statistics AND/OR PhD specialising in Economics from a globally recognized university (as per university ranking available at the time of closing applications under ARWU, QSWUR, and THEWUR with an overall ranking between 1 – 500).
- AND A Bachelor’s degree (minimum of three (03) years), with a minimum of Second Class (upper division), or a minimum of 3.5 Grade Point Average (GPA) out of a maximum of 4.0 or a minimum Weighted Average Marks (WAM) of 75%, specialized in Economics, Statistics / Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science / Information Technology / Data Science, Accounting / Banking / Finance, Commerce / Management / Business Administration, or Public Policy from a local or foreign university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka.
- 2.2 Experience:
- At least five (05) years of relevant post-Bachelor’s degree work experience covering specialized areas and required competencies. A maximum of three (03) years spent pursuing full-time postgraduate studies can be considered.
- 2.1 Educational/Professional Qualifications:
- 3.0 Required Skills / Competencies:
- Proficiency in macroeconomic modelling techniques and knowledge of macroeconomic linkages.
- Expertise in Matlab, EViews, IRIS, Dynare and other relevant software.
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure as part of a team and individually.
- 4.0 Age: 35 years of age or below as of 23.08.2026.
- 5.0 Employment & Terms:
- Probation period of two (02) years. Successful candidates will be confirmed in the permanent cadre as Staff Class Grade II officers in the General Service upon successful completion.
- Initially posted to the Economic Research Department of the CBSL, with rotation among departments based on bank requirements.
