Job Description

Position: Milk Collection & Extension Officer
Type: Long-term Engagement
Location: Wennappuwa

Key Responsibilities

Milk Collection Management:

  • Oversee the daily collection of milk from designated collection centers.
  • Ensure that milk is collected in a timely and hygienic manner, adhering to quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of milk quantities and quality.
  • Coordinate with transporters to ensure the timely delivery of milk to processing facilities.

Farmer Support and Training:

  • Provide technical advice and support to dairy farmers on best practices in animal husbandry, feeding, and milk production.
  • Conduct regular training sessions and workshops for farmers to improve milk yield and quality.
  • Assist farmers in adopting new technologies and practices to enhance productivity.

Quality Assurance:

  • Monitor and enforce quality standards for milk at the collection centers.
  • Implement quality control procedures to prevent contamination and spoilage.
  • Liaise with quality assurance teams to ensure compliance with industry standards.

Extension Services:

  • Develop and implement extension programs aimed at improving farm management practices.
  • Promote sustainable dairy farming practices, including proper nutrition, breeding, and animal health management.
  • Provide farmers with information on market trends, pricing, and supply chain dynamics.

Data Management and Reporting:

  • Maintain comprehensive records of milk collection, farmer interactions, and extension activities.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on milk production, quality, and extension program outcomes.
  • Use data to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

Problem-Solving:

  • Address challenges related to milk collection, transportation, and quality control.
  • Provide solutions to farmers’ issues regarding animal health, feeding, and production practices.
  • Support the implementation of corrective actions to resolve operational issues.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree in Animal Science, Agriculture Extension, or any other related field.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a similar role.
  • High-level presentation, writing, and communication skills.
  • Team player with a pleasing personality.
  • Ability to work under pressure and extended hours with minimum supervision.
