Lead Data Scientist

About the Role

As a Lead Data Scientist, you will be a strategic thinker and technical expert, combining advanced analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to drive high-impact business solutions. You will play a pivotal role in identifying, designing, and delivering AI/ML opportunities within product offerings, ensuring data-driven decision-making at scale.

This role requires a strong ability to lead technical projects, guide teams, and work cross-functionally with software engineers, architects, program managers, and product owners. You will provide technical oversight, ensure best practices in AI/ML development, and drive innovation through data science methodologies. As a thought leader, you will mentor team members, shape AI/ML strategies, and collaborate with domain experts, partners, and clients to develop Proof-of-Concepts and production-ready models.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities

  • Lead the technical design and development of scalable AI/ML solutions aligned with business and functional requirements.
  • Drive best practices in ML model development, deployment, and optimization.
  • Oversee the testing, debugging, and continuous improvement of data science solutions.
  • Engage with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into data-driven solutions.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to data science teams.
  • Define high-level architectures and strategic AI/ML roadmaps.
  • Represent the company in large-scale internal and external AI/ML projects.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and knowledge sharing across teams.
  • Stay ahead of emerging trends in AI/ML and advocate for their adoption where relevant.

Overall Required Competence

  • Proven experience in leading data science projects and teams.
  • Strong technical expertise in AI/ML model development, deployment, and performance tuning.
  • Proficiency in ML frameworks, algorithmic design, and data science methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with data engineering, data pipelines, and cloud-based AI/ML solutions.
  • Strong software development skills in Python, R, or similar languages.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  • Experience defining AI/ML architectures and integrating them into business applications.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to mentor and guide junior and mid-level data scientists.

Required Education & Experience

  • A University degree or equivalent professional qualification with at least 2 years of industry experience as a data scientist, or a master’s level degree in data science, is an essential prerequisite for all career levels.
